Letter from Chapter President, April 15, 2005
A New Japan Chapter of AIS, JPAIS, Was Established. This is the
first letter from President of the Japan Association for Information
Systems, Japan Chapter of AIS (JPAIS), to AIS members in Japan. Apologies
for delaying this announcement.
AIS Council Approved A New Japan Chapter, JPAIS
As AIS VP-Communications writes on the AIS website in January, a new Japan Chapter of AIS was approved by the AIS Council
Meeting on December 12, 2004 at ICIS 2004 in Washington D.C. This new
chapter, the Japan Association for Information Systems, abbreviated as
JPAIS (the Internet domain name plus AIS), was proposed by Ryutaro Manabe,
a founding member of AIS, with endorsement of more than a dozen of AIS
members in Japan who have participated in AIS and AIS affiliated
conferences, such as ICIS, PACIS and others. Manabe and Masaaki Hirano
made presentations on founding the new chapter to the AIS Council at ICIS
2004. The vote was taken after both of them left the meeting room, and the
proposal was unanimously approved. As another Japan Chapter, NAIS,
was established in June last year, JPAIS is the second AIS chapter in
Japan. John Mooney, VP-Chapters and Affiliated Organizations, said at the
Council meeting that as the AIS Bylaws do not restrict one chapter in one
country there would be no problem with more than one AIS chapter in Japan.
And the Council agreed with this.
